Holistic Care for Sick Pet

The Soft Tissue Surgery Center at Erawan Pet Hospital provides comprehensive care for sick animals, not just surgical treatment. We offer holistic care, addressing other co-existing diseases and assessing the appropriate time for the animal to return to a good quality of life after surgery. Our team of veterinarians and nurses provide close monitoring throughout the recovery process.

  • Reproductive System Surgery, such as caesarean section, surgery to treat uterine infections, etc.
  • Eye Surgery, such as enucleation, surgery to correct prolapsed eyeballs, and surgery to treat corneal ulcers, etc.

    Before Surgery

Since surgery and anesthesia can impact the animal’s body, it is crucial for the veterinarian to have the animal’s complete health history, including blood test results, blood chemistry values, and laboratory findings. This information helps in selecting the appropriate anesthesia method. It is important for pet owners to understand the risks and be prepared to bring their pets in for surgery and anesthesia. Additionally, pets must fast for at least 10 hours before surgery.

During Surgery

The veterinarian may administer sedatives to the animal through intramuscular injection or intravenous injection. Then, anesthesia will be induced, and an endotracheal tube will be inserted to assist with breathing and deliver the anesthetic gases. The amount of anesthetic and oxygen will be controlled through an anesthetic machine. Additionally, monitoring equipment will be used to track the animal's vital systems, providing real-time information on the animal's physiological status, drug response, and depth of anesthesia. The equipment is equipped with alarm systems that alert the veterinarian and veterinary assistants to any abnormalities, allowing them to respond promptly. As the surgery nears completion, the veterinarian will gradually reduce the anesthetic to allow the animal to regain consciousness.

After Surgery

The veterinarian and veterinary assistants will continue to care for the animal in the recovery room, managing post-surgical pain and preventing or addressing any complications that may arise. Once the animal has stabilized, vital signs are stable, and it is assessed as strong enough, it will either be discharged to go home or continue receiving care at the animal hospital as needed. Typically, the animal will be monitored in the recovery room for about 1-2 hours after surgery.
