Orthopedic Center

Erawan Pet Hospital has carefully selected a team of highly experienced orthopedic surgeons, especially experts in treating complex and challenging conditions. We provide comprehensive services, including procedures and surgeries, as well as utilizing advanced technology for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of pets with bone and joint diseases.

Whether your pet suffers from an injury due to an accident, other bone and joint issues, or congenital bone and joint abnormalities, our team of expert veterinarians will create a holistic treatment plan tailored to each individual animal. This includes rehabilitation strategies aimed at improving your pet’s quality of life and helping them return to their normal activities.

Orthopedic Surgery Center

We are continuously improving. Our Surgical Center focuses on developing a new operating room to enhance our capabilities in treating animals that require surgical intervention. The operating room is equipped with state-of-the-art surgical instruments, along with an anesthesia setup and high-definition surgical lights to ensure greater precision during procedures. Additionally, the room is fitted with a glass window for visibility between the control room and the operating room, as well as an advanced air circulation system (positive pressure) to reduce contamination from airborne particles, minimizing the risk of infection. This ensures enhanced safety for both the patients and the staff in and around the operating room.

Treatment for Fractured Bones It can be mainly divided as follows:

Casting

  • Casting is a non-surgical treatment method where the pet's movement is restricted for an extended period by applying a cast or requiring hospitalization. The risks associated with this treatment include muscle atrophy, joint stiffness, or the development of pressure sores.

Fracture Repair Surgery with Pins

  • This treatment involves inserting stainless steel rods into the bone cavities on both sides of the fracture to align the broken bones as closely as possible to their original position. The bone cells then naturally work to heal and connect the fractured pieces together. The fractured bones are held in place with pins, ensuring they remain stable and secure enough to resist the twisting and pulling forces exerted by the surrounding muscles. This approach helps ensure proper healing and successful bone union.

Fracture Repair with Plates and Screws

  • This method is an effective treatment for bone fractures, providing better stability and alignment compared to pin-based treatments. Plates and screws are used to securely hold the fractured bones together, allowing them to align as closely as possible to their natural position. This method promotes better bone union as the bone cells heal the fracture in a way that creates a smooth, seamless connection without the bumpy callus formation that may occur with pin fixation. The use of plates and screws offers superior support, ensuring the bones remain stable while they heal.

Pelvic Fracture Repair with Plates and Screws

  • This treatment involves using plates and screws to stabilize the fractured pelvic bones, aiming to restore the pelvic structure to its original state as much as possible. This procedure prevents complications such as pelvic narrowing, which can lead to various issues, such as difficult childbirth in females or constipation and abnormal bowel movements if the pelvic cavity remains improperly aligned or narrowed due to untreated fractures. Proper surgical intervention ensures that the pelvic bones heal correctly, reducing the risk of these problems.

Femoral Head Fracture Surgery

  • This surgery addresses femoral head fractures by removing the fractured femoral head and allowing the body to form a fibrous tissue connection, effectively creating a "false hip joint." This procedure helps alleviate pain and improve mobility, as the body naturally adapts to the absence of the femoral head by forming a fibrous joint that stabilizes the hip.

Patellar Luxation Surgery

  • This surgery corrects the abnormal positioning of the patella (kneecap) that has shifted from its normal alignment. It is often caused by a shallow groove for the patella or deformities in the femur or tibia, which prevent the kneecap from staying in its proper place. The surgery aims to realign the patella and restore proper joint function, helping to reduce pain and prevent further complications.

Amputation Surgery

  • Amputation is a surgical procedure performed to remove a limb or part of a limb when the distal extremity has experienced severe infection that cannot be healed or when the bone has been severely damaged beyond repair. This procedure is necessary to prevent further pain, infection, and complications, and to improve the animal's quality of life. After amputation, rehabilitation and proper care are crucial to help the pet adapt to its new condition.
